I watched as promise and youth rot away
Flames of desire stroked, till they gave away
Burnt bright and burnt short, like tinder fire
My love gave way to this ashen empire
Unfettered, the flesh of my flesh still taints
It’s the nature whence it came
Like things all, my will buckles away
Crushed under these callous days
My love, sweet love, gone astray
Turned sour, in a most unseemly way
What left is tarnished, broken off
The many pieces of a fractured whole
So I write little snippets, memoirs and more
Ethched on each piece that is now lost
If you find one, may it be a totem of sorts
A cruel reminder, a thing of past, nothing more
